"Division Three" news

Division 3 successfully reformed during the 2009-2010 season, after a five or so year period where the smaller fixed keel boats raced alongside Division 2 boats. Currently the fleet comprises of 5 boats (Spacesailers & Red Witches), and we are always keeping a close ear to the ground to follow up on interest that may be out there to further increase the size of the fleet!

The 9.5-10.5 NM courses are sailed both in Princess Royal Harbour and in King George Sound, with course length optimized to ensure the smaller boats are finishing around the same time as other divisions are completing their respective courses.

Division 3 presents as a great ‘entry level’ division which doesn’t draw substantial setup and maintenance costs while still being able to enjoy the thrills of competitive sailing. With an excellent support base of experienced sailors both in the division and within the wider club, who are always only too keen to offer constructive and encouraging advise, it creates a fantastic learning environment for newcomers to the club or for sailing families who would like to step up and own a small keel boat that can be used for both racing and local cruising adventures.

Even if you are not interested in skippering your own boat there are regular opportunities to come down and crew for existing boats in the fleet. The club is also most welcoming of visiting boats joining in on race days whose skippers & crews are keen to experience the fantastic sailing conditions that are typically on offer in Albany.
